HUNDREDS EXPECTED TO DRUM FOR WORLD PEACE
On Sunday, August 22, from 2:30-5:00 p.m., the entire planet will once again vibrate to the sound of simultaneous drumming in an annual call for world peace and unity. The event is the 11th annual "Drums Around the World" which connects hundreds of community and village drum circles all over the globe.
This year, Norwalk will again play host to Drums Around the World at Taylor Farm Park, next to Calf Pasture Beach in East Norwalk. This unique celebration is open to the public and attracts hundreds of drummers, dancers and onlookers each year, all seeking to build community while making a collective statement for world peace and unity.
Drums Around the World, which takes place simultaneously across the USA, and in more than 30 countries, will feature several guest drum circle and dance facilitators from around Connecticut. Scheduled to appear along with organizer Randy Brody are John Boiano from Vernon, Craig Norton and Virginia Anderson from West Hartford, and Francoise Esteve from Ridgefield.
Facilitating at the annual event for the second time, John Boiano will bring his own special rhythmic energy to share. John is the owner of Pulse Integration in Vernon, a company dedicated to presenting drum circles and workshops to a wide audience throughout Connecticut.
Craig Norton and Virginia Anderson, owners of Playtivity in West Hartford, return to Drums Around the World again this year, presenting a drumming and movement circle aimed at welcoming the participants as they arrive, and creating a feeling of unity right from the onset. Their spontaneous opening last year is still fondly remembered by attendees in 2003.
Francoise Esteve, director of Yogadance in Ridgefield, has been facilitating Drum-N- Dance programs along with Randy Brody for the last year. She danced at Drums Around the World for many years as a participant, and this year is welcomed as the dance facilitator who will lead the high-energy dancing that traditionally closes the event. Francoise is a certified yoga teacher as well as a certified Danskinetics™ facilitator who teaches at Kripalu, in Lenox, MA on a regular basis.
Drums Around the World organizer, drummer, performer, music educator and Westport resident Randy Brody works extensively with schools, community groups, hospitals, corporations, individuals, couples, and seniors, sharing the uplifting, healing and almost magical power of drumming. "When we drum together we start to communicate in a more meaningful way. Our lives are less stressful and our world is a better place to live," says Randy. "Who could ask for anything more?"
